What to Expect
When you come to Peter Campbell Counselling, you can expect to be treated as an individual, with your issues the focus.
At the first session, we’ll work out what things to focus on, and how often to meet. I’ll also talk about confidentiality, and how your record is stored safely, and answer any other questions you may have.
I’ll ask you what you want to get from counselling, so have a think about that before the first session.
I don’t take notes during the session, but afterwards I’ll write down what seemed most important, and bring it to our next session for discussion.
Sessions usually go for an hour.
How often will I need to come?
As a guide, most people find it useful to start by coming weekly, and to review this after six sessions.
Some people do want just one session, to clarify their thoughts, or to find out more about grief, stress or other issues.
Occasionally you mightn’t be able to get to a session. No problem, but please let me know as soon as you can. There is no charge for cancelling a session, as long as you let me know the day before.
Same-day cancellations incur a charge of 50% of the session fee.
Couples counselling can be difficult for both of you. In the counselling room, you have a chance to speak safely, put forward ideas for change, and to listen to your partner, uninterrupted by the noise of ordinary life.
Couples counselling will include at least one individual session each, where you can talk about how yo’ure finding the couples sessions without the”ping-pong” effect of having three people in the room.
The initial session can go for up to 90 minutes, as we work out what is most important for you both.
Subsequent sessions are likely to be shorter – but they will be at least an hour.
